Why Japan?

Meticulous. By default.

Japan has the most developed pre-owned golf market in the world. The reason is cultural — and it translates directly into the condition of what you receive.

Japanese golfers have a relationship with their equipment that is genuinely different. Rounds are planned carefully. Clubs are maintained. And when it's time to upgrade — which happens often — the clubs move into the world's most meticulous pre-owned market.

Honest grading. Climate-controlled storage. In the world's largest golf retailer there are over 550,000 clubs available at any moment. Every one professionally assessed against a published standard. Grade A in Sapporo is Grade A in Fukuoka. Pre-owned clubs from Japan are in a different class entirely.

And it's not just the used market. New stock from Japan's specialist golf retailers is often significantly cheaper than Australian retail — same club, same specification. AUD/JPY near a 40-year high is making the value case stronger than it's been in decades.

  1. Professional grading — Trained staff assess every club against a published scale. You're buying from a retailer who bears the return risk — not a stranger with an incentive to over-describe.
  2. 550,000+ clubs — Japan's used network spans a number of the biggest golf retailers in the world as well as specialist dealers. If a golf club exists pre-owned, we'll be able to find it.
  3. Original shafts — Japanese golfers overwhelmingly keep original shafts. Re-shafting is far less common than in Australia. Original equipment, original flex, original design intent.
  4. Market exclusives — Honma, Miura, XXIO premium, PRGR — models never released in Australia, built to specifications unavailable here.
  5. 40-year FX high — AUD/JPY near the strongest in four decades. This window won't stay open indefinitely.

Condition, defined.

Japan's professional grading is stricter and more consistent than anything in the Australian market. Grade B in Japan is what a private seller in Australia would call "excellent condition." Their Grade A is extraordinary.

N — Near New

Unused and possibly only hit a few times in a store. May still have protective plastic wrap on the sole or grips. Indistinguishable from new. Original grips and shaft in perfect condition.

A — Excellent

Minimal to no play wear. Possibly one or two very light micro-marks on the club, usually visible only under close inspection. Face, topline and hosel in excellent condition.

B — Very Good

Mild play wear. Sole marks consistent with some use but can be in very good condition. No dents, cracks or structural issues.

C — Good

Noticeable play wear but still in great condition. Some sole marks or scratches visible. Fully playable and structurally sound. Outstanding value.

D and Below - We do not source Grade D or Below. Our sourcing process excludes them entirely. If you're comparing to a private listing described as "good condition", our Grade C is consistently better. Professional graders have no incentive to over-describe — the retailer bears the return risk if they're wrong.
